I have been storing photos on the drive for 6 months, then one day it would no longer pop-up. Was anybody able to find a fix for this without losing your files? If so, how did that go? I need to recover the data and repair the drive if possible, is there a solution? It seems a recurring theme If you try to initialize it or change it to online you get I/O device error.

My other hard drive works just fine in the same USB ports, I have tried all ports, I have tried flashing my BIOS, I have tried using programs like HD sentinel, I have tried to update the firmware and drivers (firmware update won’t even start,) I have tried unistalling drivers, rebooting, and let them reinstall as soon I plug it in. I let a friend borrow the drive to watch a movie, and when he returned it, it won’t work on my or his laptop anymore. It would be an amazing coincidence if the sata connector on the laptop just happened to go back while reinstalling an OS, so I'm leaning toward some kind of software issue. I'll try running seatools, but since the drive works on my desktop, it stands to reason that it's not a hdd issue. Unfortunately I can't try a different sata port on the laptop as I only have the one free. I just pulled the hdd out of the laptop and installed it in my desktop and everything works perfectly in my desktop. So there is a partition, and windows is still saying uninitialized. After deleting the old partition, formatting, and creating the new partition It still shows uninitialized in disk management. If Partition Wizard did complete the partition and format, are you saying it still shows as uninitialized in Disk Management?Ī disk that asks to be initialized is usually a clean unformatted disk.
